카타를 실제로 쓰지 못하는 이유

아이키도 삼성당의 오늘의 영상 주제는 '카타(形)를 실제로 쓰지 못하는 이유'입니다. 이는 '오랜 카타 연습에도 불구하고 실제로 활용하지 못하는 원인'에 대한 제 견해를 담고 있습니다.

제가 자주 강조하듯이, 무술의 카타는 '시나리오이자 교과서'입니다. 카타 연습의 의의는 처음에는 전체적인 흐름을 익히고, 반복 연습을 통해 숨겨진 의미를 발견하는 과정에 있습니다. 카타를 실제 상황이나 스파링과 동일시하는 것은 잘못된 접근이라고 봅니다.

고류 검술의 카타는 존중받는 반면, 아이키도의 카타가 의문시되거나 폄하되는 이유를 고민해 봤습니다. 검술 카타에서는 간합, 시선, 자세 등 다양한 요소에 주의를 기울이지만, 아이키도 카타에서는 이러한 세부사항을 무시하고 단순히 기술의 속도와 힘에만 집중하는 지도자와 수련자가 많은 것이 한 원인일 수 있습니다.

기본 카타는 단순해 보이지만, 가장 깊이 있게 연구해야 할 교과서입니다. 본부도장에서 도주와 도장장께서 기본 카타만을 중점적으로 가르치는 이유도 여기에 있지 않을까 감히 짐작해 봅니다.

合気道三誠堂の今日の動画テーマは「形（かた）を実際に適用できない理由」です。これは「長年の形の練習にもかかわらず、実戦で活用できない原因」についての私の見解を含んでいます。

私がよく強調するように、武術の形は「シナリオであり教科書」です。形の練習の意義は、最初に全体の流れを習得し、反復練習を通じて隠れた意味を発見するプロセスにあります。形を実際の状況や対戦と同一視するのは、誤ったアプローチだと考えます。

古流剣術の形は尊重される一方で、合気道の形が疑問視されたり軽視されたりする理由を考えてみました。剣術の形では、間合い、視線、姿勢など様々な要素に注意を払いますが、合気道の形ではこれらの細部を無視し、単に技の速さと力にのみ集中する指導者と修練者が多いことが一因かもしれません。

基本の形は単純に見えますが、最も深く研究すべき教科書です。本部道場で道主と道場長が基本の形のみを重点的に教えられる理由も、ここにあるのではないかと私は敢えて推察します。

As I often emphasize, I believe that martial arts kata are "scenarios and textbooks." The significance of practicing kata lies in first grasping the overall flow, and then discovering hidden meanings through repeated practice. I think it's misguided to view kata as equivalent to real situations or sparring.

I've pondered why many people question or even belittle Aikido kata while not questioning the kata of Koryu Kenjutsu(classical sword schools). In Kenjutsu kata, practitioners pay attention to various elements such as timing, eye contact, and posture. In contrast, many Aikido instructors and practitioners ignore these details and focus solely on the speed and power of techniques. This might be one of the reasons.

Basic kata may seem simple, but they are the textbooks that require the most in-depth study. I dare to imagine that this is why Doshu and Dojocho at Hombu always thoroughly teach the fundamentals.
